I FEEL IMMENSELY BLESSED AND HONORED TO REPRESENT THE DEPARTMENT WHICH HAS COME TO IT’S EXISTENCE TODAY AS A RESULT OF SUPERIOR THINKING & TIRELESS EFFORTS OF OUR VISIONARY PRINCIPAL MR. KYAW THEIN AUNG. WITH A VIEW TO PREPARING SKILLED BIOLOGY GRADUATES CAPABLE OF MEETING THE DEMAND OF 21ST CENTURY, WE HAVE SAILED OUR JOURNEY IN OUR BELOVED COLLEGE. BRIEF HISTORY OF BIOCHEMISTRY:

             THE ORIGIN OF LIFE IS STILL A MYSTERY, BUT THERE ARE SOME THEORIES THAT SPECULATE HOW INORGANIC MATTERS WAS TRANSFORMED INTO THE ORGANIC MATTER THAT CREATED LIFE.TO ANSWER ALL  QUESTION ABOUT LIFE, “BIOCHEMISTRY” IS THE ONLY LANGUAGE TO SPEAK.

       THE HISTORY OF BIOCHEMISTRY CAN BE TRACED BACK FROM THE STORMING EVENT OF SYNTHESIS OF ‘UREA” FROM AMMONIUM CYANATE (NH4OCN), AN INORGANIC MOLECULE BY FRIEDRICH WOHLER IN 1828.

THIS WAS THE STARTING POINT OF BIOCHEMISTRY ACCORDING TO MANY SCIENCE HISTORIANS.

           IN 1893, EDWARD BUCHNER DEMONSTRATED ALCOHOLIC FERMENTATION IN CELL-FREE YEAST EXTRACTS. SOME SCIENTISTS CONSIDER THIS DISCOVERY AS THE ORIGIN POINT OF BIOCHEMISTRY.

     THE TERM “BIOCHEMISTRY” WAS COINED IN 1870.THE DISCOVERY OF MAJOR BIOMOLECULES, SUCH AS PROTEIN, CARBOHYDRATE LIPID & NUCLEIC ACIDS OCCURRED IN BETWEEN 1830 1890.BIOCHEMISTRY IS CLOSELY RELATED TO MOLECULAR BIOLOGY, THE STUDY OF THE MOLECULAR MECHANISMS BY WHICH GENETIC INFORMATION ENCODED IN DNA IS ABLE TO RESULT IN THE PROCESS OF LIFE.

     THE DISCOVERY OF DOUBLE-HELIX MODEL OF DNA IN 1953 REVOLUTIONIZED THE WORLD OF MOLECULAR BIOLOGY. GENETIC ENGINEERING, HUMAN GENOME PROJECT, CLONING, METABOLOMICS, BIOTECHNOLOGY, BIOINFORMATICS ARE THE BRANCH OF BIOCHEMISTRY.

JOURNEY OF BIOCHEMISTRY IN OUR COLLEGE:

       GREAT PEOPLE ALWAYS LIKE TO KEEP THEM   BUSY BY PURSUING DREAMS TO DO MORE FOR THE NATION. BY BEIING   INSPIRED WITH THE PRINCIPLE OF BENEVOLENCE AND INNOVATION, MS. AYE THEIN AUNG, EX-LAW MAKER & CHARISMATIC LEADER, CREATED AN OUTSTANDING SCIENTIFIC IDEA.THEN SHE   TRANSMITTED THAT NOBLE THINKING TO OUR PRINCIPAL MR. KYAW THEIN AUNG TO FORMULATE A STRUCTURE TO OPEN THE DOOR OF LEADING BIOLOGICAL EDUCATION & RESEARCH IN OUR COLLEGE. EVENTUALLY, A  GROUP OF   DISTINGUISHED SCHOLARS AND ACADEMICIANS  OF THE COUNTRY  CAME FORWARD  BY RESPONDING TO THE CALL OF  PROFESSOR KYAW  THEIN AUNG, ONE OF  THE MOST PROMINENT EDUCATIONISTS OF THE COUNTRY,  AND GOT UNITED WITH THEIR  IDEAS TO CREATE AN EXCITING CENTRE OF CUTTING EDGE TECHNOLOGY AND KNOWLEDGE.

FINALLY, DREAM CAME TRUE THROGH THE EMERGENCE OF   “BIOCHEMISTRY & MOLECULAR BIOLOGY” AS A DEPARTMENT TO ADVANCE THE COMMUNITY IN APPLIED SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY. MS. SHARAYAT PARVIN LUBNA, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, A DEVOTED SCHOLAR & IDEAL ORGANIZER, WAS PERFORMING CONSISTANTLY IN TERMS OF KNOWLEDGE SHARING, INFRASTRUCTURE PLANNING & EVENT MANAGEMENT FROM THE VERY BEGINING OF THE LONG CHERISHED JOURNEY. GRACIOUS COLLEGE MANAGEMENT WAS PLEASED TO NOMINATE HER AS THE FOUNDING CHAIRMAN OF THE DEPARTMENT. OFFICIALLY  OUR DEPARTMENT GOT A PHYSICAL SHAPE ON ………………2017.SINCE THE INCEPTION, WE ARE WORKING HARD TO MAKE OUR DEPARTMENT A MODEL & LIGHT SPREADING CENTRE IN THIS REGION WITHIN SHORTEST POSSIBLE TIME.     

WE ARE ESPECIALLY GRATEFUL TO THE ESTEEMED VC OF THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITY, SIR DR. HARUN OR RASHID FOR APPROVING BIOCHEMISTRY AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY FOR THE FIRST TIME IN COX’S BAZAR CITY COLLEGE IN CHATTAGRAM REGION. IN THIS BIOTECHNOLOGICALLY ADVANCED 21ST CENTURY, IT IS A VERY TIMELY DECISION TO APPROVE A SUBJECT LIKE BIOCHEMISTRY AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY TO CREATE A HOMOGENOUS OPPORTUNITY TO ACQUIRE KNOWLEDGE AND TO MAKE AN IMPACT TO THE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT IN THIS SOUTHERN PART OF BANGLADESH. WE ARE ALSO GRATEFUL TO REMEMBER THE CONTRIBUTION OF PROF. DR. CHOWDHURY MONIRUL HASAN, DEPT. OF BMB. CU, PROF. DR. ASADUZZAMAN, DEPT.
